INTRODUCTION

In order to better serve the achievement of the goals of environmental protection and sustainable development, the society today needs qualified human resouces that not only participate in scientific researches but also implement development projects, business startups, and many other management activities. Understanding this demand of the society, VNU School of Interdisciplinary Studies (VNU SIS) has inntroduced a PhD. program in Climate change and sustainable development. The program will provide graduate students with profound and updated professional knowledge as well as knowledge and skills related to scientific research and management in this field.

This interdisciplinary and highly applied training program will be a place for current and future leaders to shine in their roles.

TARGET

The PhD. program in climate change and sustainable development has the specific targets as follows:

  • Providing post-graduates with profound, advanced and updated knowledge about climate change and sustainable development;
  • Supplying post-graduates with knowledge and skills in scientific reseach so that they can conduct independent researches and boost the publication of research results as well as applied products and knowledge transfer in climate change and sustainable development;
  • Provide post-graduates with knowledge and skills in designing, coordinating and managing projects and connecting related partners so that they can conduct development projects, business and start-ups related to climate change and sustainable development.

 

OUTPUT

On completing this PhD. program in climate change and sustainable development, post-graduates can:

  1. Master the basic and advanced knowledge about climate change and sustainable development;
  2. Master knowledge of managing and organising scientific research, running research groups and developing new technologies;
  3. Have the ability of doing research and exploring new knowledge;
  4. Have the ability of leading and managing effectively an independent research unit or a research group;
  5. Have the ability of explaining and solving problems effectively;
  6. Have the ability of gathering and mobilizing the expertise of experts and specialists from different disciplines in solving interdisciplinary problems;
  7. Demonstrate social responsibilities in research and put knowledge into practice.

RECRUITMENT

  1. Mode of Recruitment

Recruitment is conducted through the evaluation of the professional records of candidates in accordance with the regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi

  2. Requirements on diploma, discipline and graduate classification

The candidates for the PhD. program in climate change and sustainable development must satisfy the diploma requirements as follows:

  • Candidates possessing a university degree of good grades in the same major of this PhD. training program;
  • Candidates posessing a master degree in the correct major or in an appropiate major of this PhD. training program;
  • Candidates possessing a master degree in a close major of this PhD. training program.
  1. Requirements on scientific works

Within 3 years up to the date of enrollment, canndidates applying for enrollment must be the author or the co-author of at least one article of specialized scientific journals or at least one scientific report published in the publication numbered preceedings of national or international seminars and conferences related to the field and research topic, which are approved by the council of professors and associate professors. For those who own a master degree, but have completed the master thesis with less than 20 credits in the master’s degree program, these candidates must have at least two scientific articles/reports.

  1. Requirements on work seniority

For those who own a master degree in a major close to climate change and sustainable development, the candidates must have at least one year of work in the fields related to climate change, sustainability science or sustainable development.

  1. Requirements on foreign languages

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications to prove their proficiency in their foreign languages in accordance with the foreign language output standard of the PhD. training program in climate change and sustainable development approved by Vietnam National Univeristy, Hanoi. To be more specific:

  • A foreign language certificate as in Appendix 1, which is recognized by an international or Vietnam’s Testing Organisations and is valid within 24 months from the exam date up to the date of enrollment.
  • A bachelor’s or a master’s degree granted by a foreign training institution to prove that the training is conducted in a language that is suitable for the language requirement in accordance with the foreign language output standard of this PhD. program.
  • A university degree in a foreign linguistics or foreign language teaching, granted by a university of foreign languages, and is appropriate for the foreign language requirement in accordance with the foreign language output standard of this PhD. program.
  • In all the case above, if it is not the English language, candidates must be able to communicate with others in English about professional issues and candidate’s English proficiency in professional communication will be assessed by a sub-committee.
